 Upcoming Upcoming includes many local events, with the empasis on music. It is produced by Yahoo.
The Boston Phoenix is a free weekly paper with tons of listings of events and activities in Boston, plus interesting articles.  This is a link to their Editor's Picks (recommendations)

  BU Events Calendar
The Kennedy School of Government at Harvard sponsors many different events open to the public. The JFK Jr. Forum presents interesting speakers almost every evening at 6 pm. Here is the schedule of events.
 City of Boston  Thanks to the new movement towards transparency in government, most working sessions are open to the public. Here is the schedule - anyone can attend.
 Boston University  Of course, Boston University has its own events calendar.  Here it is.
 

 This is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's events calendar. Lots of the events are free, and some are even understandable by normal people.
