Field Trip to Salem, MA.

We will meet at CELOP at 9 am on Friday and take the the Green Line to North Station where we will get the Commuter Rail train to Salem. The train costs $5.80 each way, and takes 30 minutes.

Salem is a picturesque fishing village 40 kilometers north of Boston, which was much more important in the history of the United States than it is now.

For over 100 years it was the main shipping, sailing and whaling port for the whole United States in the 1700's, and was the location of the Salem Witch Trials, which have been immortalized in novels, movies, TV shows and comic books.  They say Salem is the witch capital of the United States.

For all these reasons, much of the historic city has been preserved, and it is home to many witch museums, witch dungeons, witch supply stores, historical reenactments, cute shops and restaurants and other tourist attractions. We will be visiting the Peabody Essex Museum, with a world famous collection of art and artifacts collected by Salem's sea captains during their years of glory.
